Pediatric Neurosurgery refers to a subfield of neurosurgery, a branch of medicine that involves performing surgery on infants or children afflicted with some kind of neurosurgical disorder. Neurosurgery, on its own, is done to correct problems with the nerves, spinal cord, and brain. A physician, who practices pediatric neurosurgery hence, must go through special training to learn how to tackle deformities, injuries, and diseases in infants such as brain tumors, spasticity, movement disorders, intractable epilepsy, hydrocephalus, craniosynostosis, head injuries, and spina bifida, as well as other cranial malformations and spinal deformities. On the other hand, a pediatric neurosurgeon is highly qualified to surgically address medical complications involving children. It is important to recall that these doctors do not always choose surgery to correct a problem. The surgeon, as an effect, will always consult other specialists to determine the best course of action for a certain neurological condition or physical lesion.
